Over the years, Stephen Curry has grown to be the “face” of three-pointers in the NBA, and on Tuesday night in a 105-96 win over the New York Knicks, the 3-point king had become the NBA’s all-time leader with 2,974 career 3-pointers.

With 7 minutes left in the first quarter, the Warriors’ small forward Andrew Wiggins passed the ball to Curry who shot a 28-footer breaking the record.

“The buildup to getting this number, it was a special atmosphere. I appreciate so much the way the fans embraced the moment with me and let me kind of get lost in it,” Curry said. “I could feel it. Once I took the shot on the wing, it just felt good, looked good — it felt like we were at home”

Madison Square Garden filled with cheers from everyone inside. Draymond Green was one of the first to congratulate Curry and give him a hug followed by Warriors coach Steve Kerr. Curry then gave the ball to his father, Dell, and later hugged Ray Allen.

After the game, Reggie Miller and Allen had given Curry a Warriors jersey with the number  2,974 on the back.

“My respect for Reggie and Ray, guys who set the bar for what it meant to be a sharpshooter,” Curry said. “And have longevity, as well. And for me, I’ve tried to own that in my journey in terms of range, volume, efficiency. So, I pride myself on shooting a high percentage…And now I can pride myself on the longevity of getting to that number that Ray set and hopefully pushing it to a number that nobody can reach. We’ll see what happens.”

Ray Allen had previously held the title with 2.973 3-pointers in 1,300 career games while Curry currently has 2,974 (and counting) in 789 games. Considering the difference in the number of games, Curry’s accomplishment holds even more weight and he isn’t close to done.

In addition to this record, the 3-point king also holds the NBA regular-season record for made three-pointers (402), NBA record for most three-pointers made in a game (9), NBA record for most three-pointers made in a single playoff (98), NBA record for most consecutive regular-season games with a made three-pointer (157) and the list goes on.

For the rest of his career, Stephen Curry will make this record as high as he can. Though the question up for debate is will anybody be able to beat the new record Curry creates?

Jalen Rose believes if somebody will break that record, Trae Young will be that guy. Do you agree? Does anyone have the potential to overtake the 3-point king?

  1. I don’t think Trae will break the record. Curry will probably hold the record for at least 5 years, probably 10.
