On January 13, the news that the Brooklyn Nets were acquiring James Harden in a 4-team trade shocked many in the sports world. The Nets already had two powerhouses on their roster – Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. Now with Harden, fans think the Nets have a solid chance at winning a championship this season. The question is will these three mesh well together and meet the high expectations.
Durant and Harden previously played together on the Oklahoma City Thunder which showed the two can work. When asked in an interview on how it was playing with Harden, Durant said “it was fun” though didn’t go in depth on the experience. This is a good sign that they get along.
The two were reunited and played their first game on January 16th against the Orlando Magic. Harden ended the game with 32 points and a triple-double and Durant scored 42 points which was a season high. This debut showed the Nets’ potential and created excitement for the return of Kyrie Irving as well.
On January 20th, with their big three back and ready, the Nets played against the Cleveland Cavaliers but it didn’t go exactly how many thought it would. The teams were neck and neck causing them to go into overtime not once but twice. Cavaliers Point Guard, Collin Sexton, was on fire hitting 4 three pointers during the second overtime. The Cavs came out with a win and left viewers shocked.
What does this mean for the Nets big three? We will see if they bounce back when the Nets and Cavs play again Friday January 22nd.
It will be interesting to see how the Nets’ season unfolds with this new superstar trio.
